Bergerac is located in the heart of the Perigord region, stradling the banks of the river Dordogne. The town itself is of medieval origin and retains many of the original streets and buildings of the time. Being a lively town, it holds many markets, has a great deal of history and has many activities for visitors to try.

For the young, and young at heart, there are a whole host of activities to keep you busy, one of the best places to spend a sunny day is Aquapark Juniorland. Situated on the road from Bergerac to Bordeaux. 4 swimming pools, water chutes, beach volleyball and much more, should be enough to keep even the biggest kid occupied for the day.
If swimming in a more natural environment is your thing then Gurson lake may well appeal, about 30mins to the west of Bergerac, this 11 hectare lake, complete with beach and swimming pool, has everything you need to keep you busy both in and out of the water.

Situated amidst beautiful countryside and rolling hills, Bergerac is the ideal location from which to indulge in some horseriding. With a number of horseriding schools within 15km of the town centre. Bergerac itself has a very good riding school, surrounded by forested hills and valleys and some of the finest beauty spots in the Dordogne valley. It caters for all abilities and disciplines and regularly organises competitions.

There are numerous golf courses in the area many of them within the grounds of beautiful chateaux, they range in quality, from holiday based courses, to courses designed by world renowned architects. However they all have one thing in common - their amazing scenery.

To the east of Bergerac is 'Les Eyzies' considered to be the capital of the prehistoric world. Caves and prehistoric sites of interest are dotted all around the area, and there are a number of parks dedicated to prehistoric culture. One such is 'Prehisto-Parc', here you can learn about the area, see a recreation of a prehistoric settlement, and watch as craftsmen shape flint for use in spears and recreate prehistoric life.

If you prefer to keep your feet dry, then Parc-en-Ciel could be for you. An aerial adventure park that has something for everyone, rope bridges, traverses and zip wires should all get the adrenaline pumping. And when you feel the need to relax the themed gardens and huge animal park should help you gently calm down.

With the Dordogne never far away it is only right that there should be an aquarium or two in the surrounding

countryside. Closest is the aquarium at Creysse, 15 minutes east of Bergerac, specialising in species resident to the Dordogne. Further afield is the Aquarium du Perigord Noir at Le Bugue, aimed at being educational as well as fun there is plenty to do as well as see.

Bergerac has many designer stores to explore and a number of markets throughout the week.
The markets are held at a number of locations around Bergerac town and deal in local produce, flowers and antiques along with a whole host of other wares. Should you wish to travel further afield for your retail therapy, Bordeaux has its own selection of designer stores along with the largest perfume store in Europe.So there are no excuses for not finding that special something.
Gastronomic shops in the region specialise in cakes, chocolate, seafood, truffles and the local specialty of Foie Gras.
After the excesses of shopping and food, perhaps a visit to Bergerac's health farm is what is needed, all the latest therapies and treatments are on offer and can be enjoyed either 'A la carte' or via a special daily rate.

When you need a spot of adrenaline there is always the karting in Bergerac, run by the former karting champion of France it should keep every budding Michael Schumacher satisfied for the evening. If you like to enjoy your thrills on water then 'Pro Glise' is worth a visit, here you can rent jet skis and wet bikes by the quarter hour.

If golf is too strenuous for you, then why not try a spot of fishing, with numerous rivers and lakes in the area, you can always be assured of finding a quiet spot to set up your rod and while away a day on the bank of a beautiful stretch of water.
A number of the chateaux in the region still have their own vineyards, many of which are open to the pubic for tastings.

The Bergerac region is thought to be one of the finest wine producing areas in France and the surrounding vineyards cover 13,000 hectares and encompass 93 villages. There is wine here to please every palette, regardless of how discerning it may be.
Many of the villages and towns in the area date back to medieval times and still retain the buildings of the time. They offer a unique insight into what the region must have looked like many hundreds of years ago.
